VLRI Current Situation
Our progress in
Swan
River
has been gaining wider and wider support from both commercial and residential participants in the
recycling effort. The Swan River Lions members are still collecting recyclables with several ½
ton trucks twice a month and VLRI don’t expect to have the “7-up” sorting truck available until the latter part of June at the
earliest.
As discussions advance on what will work best for surrounding communities and
Swan
River
as well, the VLRI board is looking into the idea of utilizing compartmented recycling trailers.
Using compartmented recycling trailers in all communities would solve several potential problems associated with (dumpster style)
collection bins.
Compartmented recycling trailers can be operated on a rotating basis with all
communities. As one trailer requires unloading in any one community, an empty trailer can be
pulled in and be exchanged. The full trailer can then be pulled back to the recycling depot in
Swan
River
, unloaded and the contents weighed which will help avoid multiple and time consuming handling of
the product. In addition, with the use of compartmented recycling trailers, it is much simpler
for adjusting where they are spotted to maximize their use.
And as a further consideration, if Blue Box Recycling is also setup in one of
the surrounding communities, planning the exchange of a trailer to coincide with the Blue Box Recycling pick-up will enable the person
exchanging the trailer to traverse the town and collect the Blue Box items; adding them to the load of trailer.
